Susanna Recchia
ARTIST - CHOREOGRAPHER
Susanna Recchia graduated from the National Dance Academy in Rome and works professionally in Italy either as a dancer or as a teacher
From 2001 she has been living in London where she obtained a diploma and then after a degree in dance studies at Trinity Laban and she won the Marion North prize for the best performer.
Her studies mainly focused on contemporary dance (Tecnica Release) and on improvisation.
After having attended the Dance-Movement Therapy course at Goldsmiths University, she obtained a diploma in Anatomy and Physiology at Tower Hamlets College and a diploma as a Yoga teacher at the Life Centre in London. She completed a Masters in Dance and Somatic Wellbeing at the University of Central Lancashire and in the last 12 years she has taken part in the Body & Earth course with Adrea Olsen and Caryn McHose.
Her job as a freelance dancer and teacher have led to her collaborating with various famous international artists and choreographers and to her dancing in theatres and art galleries all over Europe.
As a dancer she has worked for the Candoco Dance Company, with whom she has done shows and taught at workshops at an international level. As a freelancer, she collaborates with the collective Sheep(s) and 5X, and along with Efrosini Protopapa she founded the Lapsus Corpi company.
She has recently worked as a director for the rehearsals of VERVE, the young company from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds.
Her teaching profession is particularly based on the popularisation of Experimental Anatomy, the Tecnica Release and the improvisation whether in Italy or abroad in various contexts, be it amateur or professional.
At present she has won a research grant for a doctorate in Dance (2015-2018) at Roehampton University in London, her research will focus on the contemporary performative practises through improvisation and multi-disciplined collaborations in contemporary dance. She is a rehearsal Director for the Candoco Dance Company.
